The PCI Security Awareness Training is mandatory annual training for all City employees who process credit card payments or otherwise operate Point of Sale (POS) devices. In addition to general overview of PCI, this training educates participants on the importance of properly securing credit card information and POS devices and how to inspect devices for possible tampering.

Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standard (DSS) or simply, PCI, is a standard supported by the major credit card brands to ensure the security of credit card data. As a merchant who accepts credit card payments, the City of Ottawa is required to maintain PCI compliance.

As part of this compliance, the City is required to ensure employees are aware of the best practices when handling credit card information and be familiar with the City’s policies, including the Responsible Computing Policy, which provides guidelines for the safe and accountable use of City assets.
